Math Olympiads

If your 4th or 5th grader enjoys challenging math problems and number puzzles, Math Olympiads may be a great fit! This school-based extracurricular program helps students develop mathematical creativity and strategies for tackling problems in new ways.

Students will work individually and in groups to solve challenging math word problems that require them to think creatively about how to understand and approach problems rather than just applying specific mathematical knowledge. There is no minimum skill level or prior competition experience required. We only require that they are interested in math and self-motivated to take on challenging problems!

Example problems from past contests are available from the MOEMS website. We encourage you to review these problems with your student before registering to see whether this style of problem-solving feels like a good fit.

The 2026-27 Math Olympiads team at Seawell Elementary will meet immediately after school on scheduled Thursdays, from 2:35-3:45 PM starting November 5, 2026, ending with a celebration on March 18, 2027.
